Kuala Lumpur in 3 days
Kuala Lumpur
It's funny. Malaysia was supposed to be only a short stop before our next adventure. Yet, it managed to steal our hearts.
Now, we have seen some great cities. Actually, here is a list of the cities/islands we have been in so far.
Amsterdam
Paris
Milan
Del garda
Verona
Venice
Villach
Zagreb
Split
Helsinki :)
Cairo
Dubai
Abu dhabi
Male
Thulusdhoo
Maafushi
And now, KL
Best city yet?
When we first arrived in Kuala Lumpur, we didn’t expect it to set the standard for the rest of our world tour, but here we are, heads over heels and maybe a bit sunburned from all the time we spent outdoors in Maldives. Our accommodation this time had it all. Rooftop gym, infinity pool, and a view of the famous Petronas Twin Towers. And our room was huge!
Oh by the way. Did any of you have any idea that a massive building shy only to Burj Khalifa is located in KL. We certainly did not. And our driver, super nice dude btw. Gave us a free tour while driving and explained about it.
From the moment we dropped our bags in our enormous hotel room, we knew we were in for something special. Kuala Lumpur has a vibe that’s hard to describe: imagine a city that’s both supercharged with energy yet somehow laid-back, where futuristic architecture sits comfortably beside historic sites.
Our days were spent wandering around Bukit Bintang, where shopping malls are the size of small countries, and every alleyway seems to hide some new food stall with smells that could inspire poetry.
And then there were the Towers. Kuala Lumpur’s shimmering Petronas Towers aren’t just landmarks, they’re an experience, a feeling, a moment that makes you realize why you fell in love with travel in the first place. Seeing them from our infinity pool was surreal, like a scene out of a movie we’d somehow found ourselves starring in. (And, yes, we took our share of artsy poolside photos.)
Bliss in form of a burger
Now, I’ve got to confess: I’m a huge fan of Five Guys. And if you’d told me we’d find one here in Kuala Lumpur, I’d have said you were dreaming. But guess what? Kuala Lumpur knows its audience. One afternoon, we were wandering through a mall, casually window shopping, totally knowing where we are heading (we were lost) and there it was a shining beacon in a sea of international brands and Malaysian street food. It was like seeing an old friend across a crowded room. I swear I heard angels singing and eating as loudly as they possibly can.
I gave the eye towards Laura. She nodded and we practically sprinted there, as if it would disappear if we didn’t act fast. And that burger, in the middle of Malaysia, tasted like a piece of heaven, like a warm, cheesy, oily hug. As we sat there with our burgers and fries, we couldn’t help but laugh. Here we were, halfway around the world, surrounded by some of the best food in Asia, and we’d managed to stumble straight into a Five Guys.
Batu caves: Golden statue and monkeys
Like most tourist spots you must visit the caves at dawn while other tourists are still asleep. We arrived at the entrance around 6:50am just as the first light revealed our surroundings. No monkeys in sight yet.
There are only about 270 steps to the top. However it was more like a workout disguised as a pilgrimage, where you huff and puff your way up a neverending rainbow staircase under the blazing sun. That giant golden statue? Amazing, until you’re sweating and clinging to the railing halfway up. Birds are chirping, but they’re really just eyeing your snacks. And those monkeys? Cute sure, in reality they can and they will steal everything from you. We were safe from the monkeys because we did our climb before they were even awake.
It's very very humid inside the cave. Once inside, the main attraction is the Temple Cave, which is a vast open space with towering ceilings, reaching up to 100 meters high. Natural light filters in from openings at the top, illuminating the cave in a mystical glow.
Fortunately, after our descend from the cave we saw the furry little devils having breakfast. Perhaps we did not have anything worthy of stealing, but I don't think they even noticed us.
See you again KL
Kuala Lumpur’s magic lies in the contrast. It’s a city where you can be in a lush, peaceful park one minute, then sipping a latte from a futuristic cafĂ© the next. It’s where traditional meets trendy, luxury meets laid-back, and every corner has something that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled into a treasure trove.
So, unfortunately we only had the pleasure to stay for 3 nights. And as we pack up to head to our next stop, we’re already feeling nostalgic for Kuala Lumpur. You gave us memories that we’ll carry with us to every new city, a reminder of what a perfect travel experience can be. Here’s hoping the next city has an infinity pool with views as good as yours, KL and maybe, just maybe, another hidden Five Guys waiting for us to discover.
Here are some memories we managed to capture
