HERE WE GO!

Our Journey Begins: A Month of Interrailing Through Europe

After years of dreaming, my wife and I finally packed our bags, waved goodbye to our everyday routines, and set off on a journey around the world. It’s been an unforgettable first month, full of trains, new cultures, breathtaking landscapes, and lots of setbacks. And now, as I sit in my sister’s home in Dubai, I finally have a moment to reflect on everything we’ve experienced so far.

Our journey started in Amsterdam, a city of canals, bicycles, and a laid back atmosphere that made it the perfect starting point.

We wandered through its charming streets, visited one humongous library, and indulged in Dutch pastries before hopping on our first travel vehicle.

A night bus!

From Amsterdam to Paris

Our next stop was the city of Paris, France. We took a night bus from Amsterdam to Paris and the moment we arrived the sky exploded and it was constant rain for 90% of our day in Paris.

Paris needs no introduction—it’s a place where art, history, and modern culture meet in the most beautiful ways. We strolled along the Seine, visited iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, and enjoyed French cuisine(pizza...) in a cozy bistro. The charm of Paris is something we’ll carry with us forever.

The charm of Paris = rain

Italy

From Paris, we continued our journey to Italy. There’s something magical about stepping off the train and immediately being surrounded by centuries-old architecture, delicious smells of Italian cuisine, and a vibrant culture that lives and breathes history. Our first stop was a short visit at Milan. I felt instant connection with Milan as I stumbled towards something I did not know existed in Italy. THE FIVE GUYS! And so our short 42 minute visit in Milan was spent indoors eating some great spicy fries. Yeah.. Five Guys.. oh we also visited Lake Garda, Verona and Venice.

There was this one bird in Venice. It followed us for hours trying to hit us.

After the assassination attempt I had to buy a new shirt for camouflage.

A Stop in Croatia

From Italy, our adventure took us to the beautiful and often underrated Croatia. Traveling from Venice to Split was pretty cool. Magnificent landscapes and a short stop in Austria. We had a blast with our friends!

Now, Laura had been sick for a good while now. In fact ever since lake Garda. Worry started to deepen in our minds and a decision had to be made. Pause the trip and go back to Finland? Or try to get help from Croatian healthcare system. We chose the latter. We chose wrong.

We tried three different hospitals in Split and they all turned us away sending us to the next location. So, we decided to seek the next flight back to Finland.

it took almost three weeks for her to feel alive again. That meant bye bye Europe! Hello Africa!

Greece: 6 hour transfer in Athens

Well, the only thing I remember was a taxi driver yelling at us for 15 minutes straight in front of a fancy restaurant.

Egypt: The Land of What the hell is going on here?!

After our European adventure, we left the continent and made our way to Egypt. Seeing the pyramids in person is something that can’t be fully captured in words.

Introducing Cairo, where traffic lights are more of a suggestion and lane lines are pure decoration. If you've ever dreamed of spending hours in traffic while simultaneously getting a crash course in car horn symphonies, this is the place for you! Love history? Great, because in Cairo, you can admire 5000 year-old pyramids while stuck behind a donkey cart in the middle of a bustling highway. The air? A perfect mix of sand, dust, and exhaust, who needs fresh air when you can inhale the history of an entire civilization?

And don't worry about getting lost in the streets, just follow the overwhelming smells of street food, spices, and the occasional unidentified mystery aroma. Whether you're dodging enthusiastic market sellers or trying to decode the art of crossing the street. It's all part of the experience!

Cairo is hectic for several reasons, but mainly because it's an enormous, densely populated city where around 22 million people are constantly on the move.

Dubai: A Welcomed Rest

And now, here we are, in Dubai, visiting my sister and taking a breather before our next adventure. But for now, I’m grateful for this time to sit, relax, and reflect on everything we’ve seen and experienced over the past month.

Just some pictures from the journey
